  Graduation and elders meeting!

  hi everyone, i'm not new here just haven't posted in a while.

  for those who remember me i'm graduating from college on wednesday!!!!

  i'm very happy but there's still a dark cloud (pardon the dramatic-ness) i am still with my non-jw boyfriend of almost three years and i've let my parents know that we want to get married (next month) and they went and told the elders(they did it kinda behind my back) who now want to meet and talk with me!

  Congrats on graduation! As far as meeting with the elders, go if it keeps peace. A close friend of mine was in a similar situation with dating an "unbeliever". She listened to their counsel and told them she would consider it thoughtfully.

  The one thing you don't want to do is allow them to make you feel guilty and confess to anything. They are either looking for dirt or trying to save you from yourself. Neither is necessary. If you choose to marry "out of the truth", expect your marriage to be shunned by the witnesses and family that are still in the lie. A good reason to go away to marry, maybe a nice trip to the Bahamas, Virgin Islands, etc.

  ???Do you spank your kids???

  tell me how you feel about spanking your kids - be honest now!!!

  have you ever, and under what circumstances?.

  what other methods of discipline do you use?

  My kids are grown, but I did spank some of them. I used spanking less and less as my children grew. The last child I never spanked. That child was a lot easier to manage though.

  I believe in a swat on the bottom to protect little ones from themselves. I also think I spanked my older children more because of encouragement from the dubs. Spanking out of anger is never a good idea and I think I crossed that line when I was a young parent.

  There is no one size fits all approach to raising children. Each child differs in temperment. I now believe that spanking a child that can be reasoned with should be the last resort. Taking away privileges is much more effective and instructive. Children need to learn that behavior is linked to what they will accomplish in life.

  i have met him - he is getting old now but he's no less intelligent or fascinating.

  some 40 years ago he wrote a well respected book called "a practical guide to qabalistic symbolism".

  I'm with Gill on this one. Quantum physics is facinating. I think we forget that our view of things is very limited. We depend on our senses to tell us what reality is, yet this gives us a very limited picture of reality. What we now call magical or mystical may one day be explained by science.

  Yes, there are those who will take advantage of others selling illusions and snake oil, but that's no reason to demand that our current understanding is the only reality that exists.

  Don't make that check out to "Watchtower" anymore!

  an announcement was made at the meeting about instructions for donations at the district assembly.

  instead of making a check out to "watchtower" the instructions are to make it out to "christian congregation of jehovah's witnesses".

  most of the r & f didn't give this a second thought but it made my ears perk up.

  Maybe a seperation of funds into different accounts? The society has taken great pains to legally separate funds in the past several years. I remember them asking us not to write checks specifically for disaster relief as they could best determine how funds were to be used. In other words, they didn't want to use the money for disaster relief.

  It's best to find a charity you trust to use any money you wish to go to others in need or just do it yourself.

  Communicating With The Dead

  i studied in the "truth" book back in the 70's.

  when we were talking about why it was wrong to communicate with the dead, the study conductor said it was because they were really demons posing as dead persons.

  he also said that it would be mean on god's part if the dead were really still alive and god refused any communication with them.

  i am about to post some questions to a local hlc elder that i used to be friends with.

  now, of course, we are no longer friends.

  i want to post him information from the society's own literature and ask him questions as to why he continues in his role etc .

  Tell them that transfusions of whole blood are rarely used in medicine anymore. Almost all transfusions are fractions of blood. Then ask exactly how are jws different from others when accepting fractions. Also where in the Bible does it indicate what fractions are acceptable? What does the word abstain mean?

  Been down that road and they have no answers.

  CO Visit: Why Such A Big Deal?

  i wasn't raised a jw, but my wife was and everytime the co makes a visit to our congregation for a week - we had to make sure nothing was going to interrupt our meeting attendance.

  vacation planned that week?

  change it.

  CO visit is like when the state comes to inspect a hospital. It is time to do everything by the book and smile while you're doing it. After they leave, everyone goes back to normal for another year.

  Hypocrisy exists in many places and organizations.

  Does anyone else remember this teaching or was it just something made up by the study conductor? At the same time, they were teaching that the "annointed" were resurrected to heaven around 1914/1919. So, by their own teachings, they were admitting that some of the departed were alive, but still couldn't be communicated with. I don't know why I didn't catch that back then?

  Anyone else remember this teaching? I can't find my old "truth" book. I saved my original copy as it had a lot of notes that show how I felt at the time.

  so i loaded up the truck and rolled out, wondering what do you do when you meet someone so ancient that the roman empire was a mere twinkling in jehovah's eye.

  Thanks for the pics. This was one of the things that made me realize that jws were never chosen by God. Talk about crazy! The world is going through a depression and Rutherford is building a mansion on 100 acres of prime land and driving fancy cars.

  The most interesting thing would be to see where the money really came from.
